Jayashree Rahul (28) and Rakhi Das (23), a lesbian couple from West Bengal tied knot in a traditional Hindu wedding ceremony at a temple in Uttar Pradesh“s Deoria. The duo, hailing from South 24 Parganas district worked in an orchestra in Deoria where they met and fell in love with each other.
At first, Jayashree and Rakhi obtained a notarised affidavit for their marriage, then followed by the wedding ceremony on Monday at the Bhagada Bhavani temple in Bhatpar Rani in Deoria.
Munna Pal, in whose orchestra the two women work, told the reporters that a few days ago, the couple was denied permission for marriage at the Dirgeshwarnath temple. Mahant Jagannath Maharaj refused them, referring the lack of permission from higher authorities in the district, Munna Pal added.
The couple then moved for an alternative route where they secured a notarised affidavit for marriage. Later on, they went to Bhagada Bhawani temple in Majhauliraj and got married in the presence of the priest of the temple.
After the wedding, Jayashree and Rakhi shared how their love story began, how they encountered the challenges together which has also reinforced their commitment towards each other.
In May last year, a lesbian couple from Kolkata got married in a conventional ceremony became a ray of hope for the LGBTQ community. They undertook all the customary Bengali ceremonies including haldi, sangeet, mehendi, and pheras and then the duo exchanged vows, Jagran reports.
