Maratha Quota Activist Manoj Jarange Patil on Tuesday claims that OBC leaders were targeting Marathas through registering false offences against them and added that Maratha leaders should stand with the youth of the community.

As the Maratha protests created uproar on demanding reservation and issue of Kunbi certificates, veteran OBC leader and state Food and Civil Supplies Minister Chhagan Bhujbal on Monday said that O Other Backward Classes (OBC) reservation under threat. He also said that “backdoor” attempts to allow reservation to the Maratha community under OBC category will be opposed and violence and pressure tactics will not be permitted.

Senior leader has visited the houses of NCP MLAs Prakash Solanke and Sandip Kshirsagar in Beed, which were set ablaze on last week when agitation turned violent.

Addressing the media on Tuesday, quota activist claimed that Mr Bhujbal”s visit to Beed was to target the Marathas. Dismissing Minister”s claim on vandalism, Mr Patil said that cases were registered against Marathas who have been agitating peacefully and is an attempt to taint their agitation.

“The Maratha community has nothing to do with the violence. This is the right time to stand with the community. Don”t make us stop your entry into villages,” he added.

Mr Patil, then added that he found that Minister met superintendent of police in Beed, handed him a list of names, and asked to arrest them to “target the Marathas.”

Adding further, Mr Patil said OBC leaders were misusing their position to “trap” Marathas and “harass them through a conspiracy.” The community cannot be suppressed, he said.

Activist mentioned that the chief minister and deputy chief ministers should speak to these leaders to make sure that there are no disputes, or else Maratha community have to opt for the next phase of agitation.

Furthermore, he requested the Maratha community to begin chain hunger strikes in villages of Maharashtra and ensure that by December 1 the protest spread to all villages.

Mr Patil is in the forefront in the Maratha community agitation demanding government jobs and education under the OBC category.
