Jaipur: At least seven people were killed and 37 injured after a massive CNG tanker explosion on the Jaipur-Ajmer Highway on Friday morning. The incident took place when a CNG tanker parked at a petrol pump in Bhankrota area caught fire after a truck collided with other vehicles. Among the injured, the condition of 12 are said to be critical, Indian Express reports.

“The incident took place after a truck lost control and hit several other vehicles in traffic including a tanker carrying chemicals that immediately had a blast and caught fire in the area. So far, at least five people were burnt alive while 36 others were injured. They were all rushed to the Sawai Man Singh (SMS) Hospital in Jaipur in a critical condition. More people are expected to be recovered as a rescue operation is underway,” Hindustan Times quotes, as Bhankrota SHO Manish Gupta is saying.

As per the reports, due to the intensity of the explosion several vehicles within a 300-meter radius were engulfed and completely burned, several drivers were burned in the incident and some are in critical condition. The explosion was heard up to 10 kilometers away, according to locals.

Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma soon reached SMS Hospital where the injured have been admitted. In a post on X, he wrote, “As soon as the information about the incident was received, he went to SMS Hospital and directed the doctors to provide immediate necessary medical facilities and take proper care of the injured. Rescue work by the administration is continuing. The local administration and emergency services are working with full readiness.”

In another post, Chief Minister reported that he visited the accident spot and took stock of the situation. Adding further, he wrote, “guidelines were given to the officers present to take immediate action as per the seriousness of the incident and to ensure necessary arrangements to prevent such incidents in future.”

PM Modi expressed condolence over the loss of lives in the blast. He announced an ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakh from Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) to the next of kin of each deceased and Rs. 50,000 to the injured.
