'Will Not Be Tolerated Anymore': Rahul Gandhi, Kharge After Parliament Ruckus

Rahul Gandhi reiterated his demand that the Home Minister Amit Shah should be resigned for his controversial remark on Ambedkar.

New Delhi: Two days after Home Minister Amit Shah made a controversial remark against the opposition’s invocation of the name of India’s constitutional architect, BR Ambedkar, the national capital and parliament continue to witness dramatic scenes. Though the home minister accused the Congress of twisting his words, the opposition MPs continued to protest, triggering counter protests and clashes among the legislators. The BJP has filed an attempt to murder case against Rahul Gandhi, while the Congress accused the saffron party of creating a ruckus.

Protests have erupted across the country against the Home Minister, demanding his resignation. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and senior leader Rahul Gandhi on Thursday conducted a press conference, unleashing a scathing attack on Home Minister and demanding his resignation over controversial remarks. Speaking at a press conference, Rahul Gandhi said that a few days ago, the issue of a case being filed against Adani in America came up, and the BJP did not allow any discussion on it in the House for the entire time.

“Then came Amit Shah’s statement on Ambedkar. We have been saying from the beginning that the thinking of BJP-RSS is anti-Constitution and against Ambedkar ji. The people of the BJP and RSS want to erase the contribution of Baba Saheb Ambedkar ji. They have shown their thinking towards Ambedkar ji in front of everyone,” the Congress leader said, adding that they asked Amit Shah to resign, but today again the home minister tried to divert the issue.

On the issue of the clash among the legislators, the opposition leader said that they were moving peacefully from Ambedkar’s statue to the Parliament, and the BJP MPs were standing on the steps of the Parliament, not letting them go inside.

“He has insulted Ambedkar ji; Amit Shah should apologize for that and resign. The main issue that the BJP wants to erase is the Adani case, on which they do not want any discussion. Narendra Modi is selling India to Adani,” the Congress leader said.

Speaking at the press conference, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge also pointed out that the BJP people came and sat at the gate to stop them as they wanted to go inside the parliament.

Women MPs of the INDIA alliance were also prevented from entering. Those people pushed me, I lost my balance and fell down, but they are blaming us for pushing them. Today there were mostly women in our group. Even when we were walking towards the Makar Dwar of the Parliament, these people were making fun of us. The kind of environment that the BJP has created in the country today will not be tolerated anymore,” the Congress chief said, declaring that a movement has been organized across the country today on the recent developments.

Kharge had earlier called Shah’s comments “tragic” and “factually incorrect,” accusing him of spreading lies about the architect of the Constitution.
