New Delhi: A chaotic scene unfurled outside the Parliament earlier today after both BJP and opposition MPs held protest marches against each other, followed by Home Minister Amit Shah’s remarks allegedly disrespecting Dalit icon Dr. BR Ambedkar.
As the two groups clashed against each other, holding photos of Ambedkar and chanting “Jai Bhim,” push came to shove quite literally. BJP MP Pratap Sarangi accused Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, of pushing another MP who allegedly fell on him, injuring his head.

“Rahul Gandhi pushed an MP who fell on me, after which I fell down…I was standing near the stairs when Rahul Gandhi came and pushed an MP, who then fell on me…” Sarangi told the media as he was wheeled away in a wheelchair with a medical professional holding a bandage to the side of his head.
Rahul Gandhi denied the accusations and claimed that a group of BJP MPs were blocking him from entering the Parliament, shoving him, and issuing threats against him and party president Mallikarjun Kharge.
On the other side, Rajya Sabha’s Leader of the Opposition and Congress President Kharge accused MPs from the saffron party of attacking him. “I was physically pushed by BJP MPs, lost my balance, and was forced to sit down on the ground in front of Makar Dwar.”

Corroborating him, Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi claimed that he saw the BJP MPs being “hostile and threatening” towards Kharge and Gandhi with sticks in their hands.
Kharge moved a privilege motion against Amit Shah for “insulting” remarks against BR Ambedkar.
The Ambedkar Row
The uproar began when Shah, during a Constitution debate in the Rajya Sabha, said that taking Dr. BR Ambedkar’s name had become a “fashion” now. “If they took God’s name so many times, they would have got a place in heaven,” he said.
His comments triggered a massive protest after opposition MPs slammed him for “disrespecting” the architect of the Indian constitution. They demanded Shah make an apology to the nation and resign from his post as the home minister.

Meanwhile, the BJP counterattacked the grand old party, accusing Congress of indulging in “cheap tricks” and “distorting facts” to create a “false narrative.” PM Modi accused the party of indulging in “every possible dirty trick to obliterate the legacy of Dr. Ambedkar” and “humiliate the SC/ST communities.”
Prakash Ambedkar, the Dalit icon’s grandson, accused Shah of exemplifying the “BJP-RSS’ hatred for Babasaheb, revealing its true mindset and harbouring “hatred” against anti-caste reformers.
