New Delhi: Congress president and the Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge today demanded resignation of the union Home Minister Amit Shah for his insulting and disrespectful remarks about Dr Baba Saheb Ambedkar. He also asked Shah to apologise to the nation.
In an informal interaction with reporters outside the parliament, Kharge referred to Shah’s offensive remarks made during the debate on Constitution in the House yesterday, where he (Shah) told the Opposition members that the number of times they (the opposition members) were taking Baba Saheb’s name, they would get the heaven seven times, if they recited God’s name in the same measure.
Kharge observed, this was quite insulting towards Baba Saheb Ambedkar and showed the true mindset of the BJP and the RSS which is guided by the Manusmriti. Condemning Amit Shah’s remarks, he said it show that the Home Minister himself doesn’t want to give respect to Dr. Ambedkar’s Constitution.
The Congress president warned that such disrespectful remarks may spread anger across the country, as nobody will tolerate insults to Baba Saheb Ambedkar and the constitution of the country.
He said, Shah must resign and also tender an apology to the people of the country for insulting Baba Saheb Ambedkar. He said, it was not just the Congress’ demand, but that of the entire Opposition.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi responded to the opposition allegations and said, “If the Congress and its rotten ecosystem think their malicious lies can hide their misdeeds of several years, especially their insult towards Dr. Ambedkar, they are gravely mistaken!
In a six-point thread on social media platform X, PM Modi launched a scathing attack on the Congress, accusing the party of indulging in “every possible dirty trick to obliterate the legacy of Dr. Ambedkar” and “humiliate the SC/ST communities.”
