After facing criticism and demands for his resignation over his statements in Parliament about Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, Home Minister Amit Shah strongly criticised the Congress, accusing the party of distorting facts.
Accusing Congress of being “anti-BR Ambedkar,” anti-reservation, and anti-Constitution, Shah claimed that the grand old party was trying to create a false narrative by misinterpreting facts.”

“…Since yesterday, Congress has been presenting the facts in a distorted way and I condemn it… Congress is anti-BR Ambedkar, it is against reservation and the Constitution. Congress also insulted Veer Savarkar. By imposing Emergency, they violated all Constitutional values,” Amit Shah said in a press conference which was held after protests erupted across India over his statement.
The controversy erupted after Shah, while addressing the House during the debate on the Constitution yesterday, said that taking Dr. BR Ambedkar’s name had become a “fashion” now. “If they took God’s name so many times, they would have got a place in heaven,” he said.
His remarks sparked the opposition MPs staging a protest outside the Parliament and demanding his resignation for disrespecting the Dalit icon.
Congress president and Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge, asked Shah to apologise to the nation for insulting Baba Saheb Ambedkar. He observed that Shah, through his remarks, had revealed the true mindset of the BJP and the RSS, which is guided by the Manusmriti.
