'Mockery of Anti-Corruption Fight': SP Slams BJP MLA's 'Commission On MLA Funds' Remark
Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh: A video of UP BJP MLA Mahesh Trivedi is being widely shared on social media, in which the legislator is seen telling party workers that they as MLAs get 10% commission from the development fund.
Admitting that he and other MLAs takes commission during an alleged party meeting, the MLA asks what the people are getting. “When you people are not getting anything, at least earn some merit and go to heaven,” the MLA was heard saying while the workers were also seen clapping in appreciation of the legislator’s honesty.

In another part of the video, Trivedi, an MLA from Kidwai Nagar in Kanpur, was heard urging Hindus to keep weapons at home for their own protection, stating that Hindus must take responsibility for their own security. He says even animals defend themselves with their horns, but Hindus do not even do that.
The video has been widely shared on social media platforms, creating uproar against the MLA. The Samajwadi Party (SP) slammed the remarks, with the party youth chief, Dr Imran Idris, noting that the BJP leader’s statements are both alarming and irresponsible.

He highlighted that the MLA openly admitted to a so-called 10 percent commission from development funds, effectively mocking the fight against corruption. The SP leader also pointed out that the MLA urged citizens to keep weapons at home, comparing an entire community to animals, underlining that it is unbecoming of any public representative and reflects poorly on the ruling party’s priorities.
“Leaders should be speaking of accountability and harmony, not of commissions and swords,” the national youth president of SP said. Uttar Pradesh Congress’s former general secretary (organization) Anil Yadav also came down heavily on the MLA, stating, people can imagine the conditions in the state when the MLA himself speaks about a 10% commission. “Imagine the cut at the minister’s level,” he added.
However, the MLA has reacted to the row, stating that his words were misconstrued. “All I wanted to say was that BJP workers work for the nation and the people. “The general perception is that an MLA earns a salary and also that he may be earning a 5 to 10 percent commission as well,” Hindustan Times quoted the BJP leader.
