Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir: Following the terrorist attack in Kashmir’s Pahalgam, Prime Minister Narendra Modi returned from his trip to Saudi Arabia and immediately conducted an urgent meeting with National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and External Affairs Minister Jaishankar over the situation in the region. The Prime Minister was on a two-day trip to the kingdom and was scheduled to return on Wednesday night.

With the horrific attack that claimed 28 lives, mostly tourists, the Prime Minister cut short his trip and departed the gulf nation on Tuesday night, landing India early on Wednesday. The horrific incident has left behind several families grieving, with their loved ones killed in the gunfire. The attack occurred in Baisaran meadows, often dubbed a mini-Switzerland for their natural beauty. A group of terrorists reportedly emerged from the dense forests around the trekking paradise of the meadows on Tuesday, April 22, afternoon, and opened fire towards the tourists on the site.

Several people were critically injured and are undergoing treatment in nearby hospitals. The death toll is likely to rise further, according to sources, reports The Hindu.

Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi said he had spoken with Home Minister Amit Shah, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Congress’ J&K unit president Tariq Karra about the horrific attack to get an update on the situation. Leaders from across the world, including US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, condemned the attack.

Home Minister Amit Shah has rushed to Jammu and Kashmir to oversee the security measures following the gruesome attack targeting tourists in the valley. Tight security have been deployed in the region amid the Home Minister’s visit.
