Ras Isa, Yemen: One of the deadliest attacks on Yemen, the US on Friday morning carried out extensive airstrikes on Yemen’s Ras Isa oil port, killing at least 38 people.

Houthi-affiliated media Al Masirah TV stated that the strike also wounded 102, citing the country’s Hodeidah Health Office. After carrying out the airstrike, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) said that the offensives were meant to cut off funding and resources to the Yemeni militia.

In a post on social media, CENTCOM said that the objective of the strikes was to “degrade the economic source of power of the Houthis.” The Central Command went on to say that the strike was not intended to harm the people of Yemen, claiming that they want to be free from Houthi subjugation and live peacefully.

“US forces took action to eliminate this source of fuel for the Iran-backed Houthi terrorists and deprive them of illegal revenue that has funded Houthi efforts to terrorize the entire region for over 10 years,” the CENTCOM added.

Notably, the strike on Houthis came amid the progression in the nuclear deal talks between Iran and the US. Both countries recently held successful opening discussions in Oman and the second phase is expected to take place in Rome.
