Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi on Saturday during the Women’s Right Conference demanded immediate implementation of the women’s reservation bill by reminding that women have no time to waste and it is the right of every woman to be counted in the political process.

she was attending a Women’s Right Conference organized by DMK-the ruling part of Tamil Nadu. She also added that every political party had begun to realize that women is a formidable collective force that shaped our nation’s future.

But unfortunately, they still look towards us with greed. Greed for votes and greed to capture our power and use it to keep us down, she expressed her disappointment.

“On your behalf today, my sisters, I demand more. I demand that we own our power” she asserted.

She demanded to put an end to the rejection of the system- societal, religious or political. She asked the women to remain united as nothing could break them apart if they decide to stand as one.

Priyanka Gandhi also expressed her gratitude to be a part of the hundredth birth anniversary of Thiru K Karunanidhi. She began her speech by recollecting her memories of her father- former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi’s assassination.

The women reservation bill was passed in the Parliament last month, reserving one-third of the seats in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies for women.

DMK deputy general secretary K Kanimozhi invited prominent female leaders from India to take part in the conference. Accepting the invitation, former President of Congress Sonia Gandhi and her daughter Priyanka Gandhi and former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Mehbooba Mufti attended the conference.
