Siddaramaiah Writes Second Letter Requesting To Cancel Diplomatic Passport Of Prajwal Revanna

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah today wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the second time, asking him to cancel the diplomatic passport of the sexual harassment accused Prajwal Revanna.

In a post on his X handle, the chief minister shared a copy of his letter, and wrote “Prompt and concerted actions are needed to secure his return to India for facing the law.”

The letter raised concerns over the accused who managed to remain in hiding to this date despite the Lookout Notice being issued. The Congress leader also noted that such an act of non-cooperation from the accused MP with the legal proceedings “deserves serious action.” The chief minister also alleged that his previous letter raising the same issue was “not acted upon” by the central government despite the gravity of the situation.

However, the Siddaramaiah”s letter came amid reports of the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) processing the report of the Karnataka government for canceling the diplomatic passport of the accused Revanna . Officials had confirmed that the MEA received a letter from the Karnataka government.

The chief minister also alleged that Prajwal Revanna misused his diplomatic privileges to escape the criminal proceedings by fleeing the country. The now-suspended Janata Dal (Secular) MP had fled India on April 27 to Germany, using his diplomatic passport hours before a First Information Report (FIR) was registered against him.

Prajwal Revanna, the grandson of former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda, has been accused of sexually abusing, recording its video, and intimidating several women. The 33-year-old Hassan candidate of the BJP ally left the country when the video of him abusing the women emerged online.

The Special Investigation Team (SIT), set up by the state government to probe the case, has issued an arrest warrant and a Blue Corner Notice against the accused JD(U) leader.
