A song advancing the benefits of millets featuring Prime Minister Narendra Modi receives a nomination for 2024 Grammy Awards. The song, “Abundance in Millets,” falls under the category of Best Global Music Performance. Released in June, it is created by Indian-American Grammy-winning singer Falguni Shah, popularly known by her stage name Falu and her husband and singer Gaurav Shah.
UN had declared 2023 as International Year of Millets, following Mr Modi”s proposition, endorsed by UN General Assembly and members of the UN”s Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Governing Bodies. The song celebrates benefits of millets, and Ms Shah mentions on her website that it was created “to raise awareness of the supergrain as another potential key to minimizing world hunger.”
Falu has received the Grammy Award for Best Children”s Album in 2022 for “A Colorful World.” She said that the idea to write a song about millets came when she met Modi in New Delhi last year after receiving Grammy. She added, during their discussion on the power of music to enable changes and boost humanity, Prime Minister told her that she should write a song carrying a message on ending hunger.
In June, sharing the release of the song on X platform, Falu wrote that “A song written and performed with honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi to help farmers grow millets and help end world hunger.”
