“Strength Of Our Democracy”: INDIA Alliance Celebrate Arvind Kejriwal’s Interim Bail

Edited by Aishwarya Krishnan

In Tuesday’s hearing, the Supreme Court of India gave Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal interim bail until June 1, which is also the final phase of voting for the Lok Sabha elections this year. He has been told to surrender himself to the prison authorities by June 2.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed her happiness over the AAP leader getting interim bail. She said, “I am very happy to see that Shri Arvind Kejriwal has got interim bail. It will be very helpful in the context of the current elections.”

“We welcome the intervention by the Honourable Supreme Court in granting interim bail to Arvind Kejriwal. We also hope that the prime minister gets enough time after June 4, when he becomes the former prime minister of India, to introspect sitting in the Sabarmati Ashram at the kind of politics he has indulged into,” responded Congress. The party also added, “We hope that the former chief minister of Jharkhand, Hemant Soren, also gets due justice.”

Senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi, who represented the AAP leader, stated, “It is strength of our demo that India’s Most Wanted (per govt & BJP) is out in 6 weeks with 21 electioneering days left despite heaviest legal artillery rolled out by Govt. We must fight & never lose faith. Vivek Jain’s assistance was invaluable & matchless. truth must triumph.”

TMC leader and Rajya Sabha MP Saket Gokhale wished Kejriwal and AAP the best. “More power to Arvind Kejriwal ji & to the Hon’ble SC.” Hailing it as “wonderful news,” Gokhale added, “This is a nightmare that has suddenly become real for the BJP. Modi, who is already rattled to the core, might go completely insane now.”

Shiv Sena (UBT) leader and Rajya Sabha MP Priyanka Chaturvedi stated that the BJP’s efforts in silencing the opposition are “backfiring on them.” Refusing to be silenced, to bend, and to give in, Chaturvedi said, “Bharat is watching, India is winning! Jai Hind!”

As per the conditions attached by the top court regarding the interim bail, Kejriwal is allowed to engage in political activities such as campaigning for his party, which he is expected to do soon.

Kejriwal was arrested on March 21 in the alleged Delhi liquor policy scam. Prior to him, the Delhi CM’s former deputy, Manish Sisodia, and Sanjay Singh were also arrested. The accusations include claims by ED that the now-scraped liquor policy allowed the AAP government to receive kickbacks for license allotment.

The AAP denied the accusations and alleged the ruling BJP used false claims to discredit the party and its leader ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.
