Delhi Court Sends Arvind Kejriwal To Judicial Custody Till April 15

The Delhi High Court remanded Delhi Chief minister Arvind Kejriwal to judicial custody till April 15. The AAP leader was arrested in the alleged money laundering case to liquor policy scam on March 21. Kejriwal was produced in court on the expiry of his ED custody.

The AAP leader was produced before Special Judge Kaveri Baweja. AAP ministers Atishi, Saurabh Bhardwaj, and Mr. Kejriwal’s wife Sunita Kejriwal were present in court.

In the remand application submitted by ED, the probe agency has accused the AAP leader of “being involved in the entire conspiracy of Delhi liquor scam, in drafting and implementation of the policy, for favoring benefiting the quid pro receiving kickbacks and eventually using part of proceeds of crime generated out of the scheduled offence in the election campaign for Goa Assembly elections”.

The probe agency sought 15 days of custody of Kejriwal and told the court that they may require further custody at a later date. Additional Solicitor General S.V Raju, who appeared for the ED said that the Aam Aadmi party supremo has been non-cooperative during the custodial days and has been evasive with the replies. The advocate also alleged that the AAP leader is deliberately not giving out the passwords to the electronic devices. Meanwhile, Kejriwal before entering the court said, “Whatever the prime minister is doing is not good for the country”.

Kejriwal has so far skipped nine central agency summons and has been running his government from the ED lock-up since then.

The central agency further noted that they may need his custody again in the future.

Meanwhile, Arvind Kejriwal too has moved the Delhi High Court against his arrest. The AAP leader stated that his fundamental rights were violated by the probe agency. The court has thus issued a notice to the ED, seeking a reply by April 2. The hearing will resume on April 3.
