As the central government gearing up for the Ram Temple consecration ceremony on Monday, o. Saturday, January 20, the Neredmet police station in Hyderabad apprehended three individuals for showcasing the documentary “Ram ke Naam,” directed by Anand Patwardhan, at a Sainikpuri cafe.
The screening, according to The News Minute, organized by Hyderabad Cinephiles, a group dedicated to parallel cinema and documentaries, led to the arrest of Anand Singh, Parag Varma, and the cafe owner Srujan at 9:30 pm.
The arrest, the news report said, stemmed from a complaint by Ruthvik Pandrangi, a member of the Vishva Hindu Parishad, alleging the “illegal” screening aimed at “creating a communal issue” ahead of the Ram Mandir consecration on Monday, January 22.
AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi questioned the arrest of three individuals urging Rachakonda Commissioner Sudheer Babu IPS to clarify the halt and arrests. Owaisi challenged the notion of viewing an award-winning documentary as a crime, suggesting that if it were so, even the Government of India and Filmfare should face consequences for awarding the movie. He humorously inquired whether a pre-screening certificate from the police is now required before watching a movie.
