The floor of Lok Sabha yesterday witnessed an MP, a person in position uttering derogatory and communal slurs towards their counterpart, diminishing the sanctity of a constitutional body. On Thursday, BJP MP Ramesh Bidhuri communally abused Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP’s) MP Kunwar Danish Ali, by repeatedly calling him a ‘terrorist,’ during the parliamentary proceedings.

Mr. Bidhuri made this remark while conducting a debate on the success of India’s lunar mission, Chandrayaan-3. BJP leader calls Mr. Ali “Bharwa (pimp), “Katwa” (circumcised), “Mullah”  “Atankwadi” (Terrorist) & “Ugrawadi” (militant) while the lower house of the Parliament was in session.

Rajdeep Sardesai, editor and anchor of India Today Television  shared the video on X, formerly Twitter.

The video shows that BJP MPs and former ministers Ravi Shankar Prasad and Harsh Vardhan sitting next to Mr. Biduri were laughing while he continued with the shouting. Congress MP Kodikunnil Suresh presiding the session is also insisting the BJP leader to sit down.

When the opposition showed outrage over BJP leader’s objectional remarks, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh immediately expressed regret in the house: “I express regret if the opposition is hurt by the remarks made by the member,” NDTV reports.

Congress MP and General Secretary in-charge Communications, Jairam Ramesh in strong words criticised Mr. Biduri’s remarks and said it is “highly condemnable.” He said Defence Minister’s apology is “insufficient” and “an insult to not only Danish Ali but all of us.”

“This shows the intentions of BJP. What Bidhuri is saying is BJP”s intention…I think this is a fit case for suspension and strictest punishment should be taken against him,” he further added.

Regarding the incident, Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Mahua Moitra, on her official social media page on X requested Speaker Om Birla to take action against the BJP leader.

Similarly, AAP MP Sanjay Singh also demanded action against Mr.Bidhuri and the party on their social media page X, shared Mr. Singh’s reaction.

Mr Suresh informed that he had directed the officials to remove the remarks from the records.
