Union Minister Nitin Gadkari Defends Toll Plaza Exemptions For MPs And MLAs
New Delhi: Union Minister Nitin Gadkari recently defended the toll plaza exemptions for Indian MPs and MLAs during an interview with journalist Megha Prasad.
During the interview, the journalist asked why there are toll exemptions for MLAs and MPs while all other citizens are paying. to which, the minister responded that the exemption has existed for a long time and that they are part of democracy.
When asked if he could stop the long-time practice, the minister refused, citing the people’s representatives’ role in democracy. The video of the interview is doing round on social media, sparking fresh debate regarding the matter.
Many questioned the rational noting that these public servants do not need to pay from their pockets, while the salary and privileges are paid by public money.
