The Punjab police busted a gang of interstate cyber fraudsters who duped industrialist and CEO of Vardhaman Group Paul Oswal of Rs 7 crore. Two cybercriminals have been arrested so far.
Ludhiana Police Commissioner Kuldeep Singh Chahal said that an amount of Rs 5.25 crore has been recovered from the two arrested individuals, identified as Atanoo Choudhary and Anand Kumar Choudhary. Both the accused are reportedly residents of Assam’s Guwahati.

Seven other members of the interstate cyber fraudsters have been identified, and efforts to arrest them are underway, said Chahal. The Police Commissioner also added that all nine members of the criminal gang hail from Assam and West Bengal.
One of the accused cybercriminals introduced himself as a CBI officer and threatened Oswal with digital arrest by showing him a fake arrest warrant, police officials said. The fraudsters swindled the Vardhaman Group CEO of Rs 7 crore, which was withdrawn from multiple bank accounts of Oswal.
The Vardhaman Group CEO filed a complaint with the cyber cell, and the case was solved within 48 hours.

In a similar fashion, Rajnish Ahuja, a local industrialist from Ludhiana, was recently duped of Rs 1.01 crore by fraudsters who threatened him with an arrest warrant.
