Right swipe issues are rampant in India and causing concern among Indian youth. Dating scams are causing much worry as it involves huge loss of money. On Saturday, a Delhi journalist named Archit Gupta recounted his horrible experience of how his “date went wrong.”
Taking to social media platform X, Mr Gupta narrates how he became a victim of dating scam, and has been duped to pay a lumpsum amount at a restaurant. The woman he met on online dating app Bumble, took Mr Gupta to a cafe called “The Race Lounge and Bar” at Rajouri Garden in the western part of Delhi and tricked him to pay bill costs over Rs. 15,000. Besides she ordering expensive menus and drinking options, the bill was unfairly put. He was shocked to see the bill but was left with no option than to pay the bill.

He claims that this racket is big and are in active in many cafes and clubs in the Rajouri Garden area. The scams in similar manner are continuing for a while now wherein scammers operates through girls. Girls who organises dates with boys on dating apps, set the place of meeting, probably a restaurant, cafe, club or bar of their choice, and go ahead with ordering expensive items where boys end up paying large amounts of bill. He writes: “This is not just about money; this is emotional and mental abuse for a person who thinks that the person sitting in front of him is genuine.”
Mr Gupta in his follow up posts also mentions other victims who has gone through similar experience, around Rajouri garden. In September, an article in Money Control, details about a man”s Reddit post on how he became a victim of Tinder scam and lost Rs. 14, 000, an incident similar to Mr Gupta.
Few days before, there were news about another Bumble scam in Gurugram where a PhD Scholar fell victim to online fraudsters and lost Rs 98,500. In another case, Gurugram police arrested a 32-year-old woman for cheating and robbing over ten men, after meeting them on Bumble and going on dates.
