Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala: The Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) is all set to demand additional seats for the assembly elections scheduled for 2026. The party is eyeing four seats in the northern districts. More seats will be sought in Kozhikode and Wayanad districts, as per reports from the local media.

IUML, the second largest constituent of the United Democratic Front (UDF), is eyeing to enhance its influence within the front for the upcoming assembly election. Securing more seats and important positions are part of the party’s strategy to reinforce its strength.

In Kozhikode, the Muslim League leadership is looking up for Koyilandy or Nadapuram, while it is eying Kalpetta seat in Wayanad district. The party might also seek the reserved constituency of Mananthavady as a compromise.

The report added that the party may also seek Pattambi constituency in Palakkad district in place of Thiruvambady as it aims to abandon the seat in Kozhikode.

Notably, the party may also demand any seat in southern Kerala as part of its strategy to expand its influence beyond northern Kerala. Suggesting the party’s stance about seeking an addition, IUML General Secretary PMA Salam recently said that all parties would be interested in contesting more seats.
