Air Kerala, the proposed airline venture of the Kerala government is set to take off soon as the airline will operate from Kannur International Airport, in addition to another airport in Mysuru, Karnataka.
The airline’s plans to operate from Kannur were announced earlier in 2024, and now it has been confirmed that Mysuru airport will also be a hub for Air Kerala. The Airline is promoted by the NRI Entrepreneurs who are behind Setfly Aviation.
This is expected to boost connectivity between Kerala and Karnataka, as well as provide easier access to international destinations.
Air Kerala is anticipated to launch domestic services in June 2025, with international operations planned for next year. The airline has already applied for the necessary permits and is awaiting clearance from the relevant authorities.

The domestic inaugural flight will take off from Kannur International Airport. The airline has signed an agreement with Kannur International Airport Ltd (KIAL) to operate flights on regional routes.
Initially, Air Kerala will operate multiple daily flights from Kannur to nearby domestic destinations within a 1.5-hour flying radius. The airline has received the necessary no-objection certificate from the Civil Aviation Ministry and is currently applying for a flying permit from the DGCA.
Air Kerala plans to begin operations with regional twin-engine turboprop ATR aircraft, later transitioning to narrow-body jets as it expands. The airline aims to establish Kannur Airport as a major hub for air travel in the region, connecting domestic destinations to international locations.

The infrastructure at Kannur Airport is already in place, and as a new player in the aviation industry, the airport management has extended its full support to Air Kerala in establishing a base there, stated Air Kerala Chairman Afi Ahmed.
“Our partnership with KIAL enables us to connect important domestic regions while also preparing for international operations. Together, we aim to provide passengers with reliable, affordable, and efficient travel options,” he said in a press conference on Monday.
