IB Officer Megha's Death: Foul Play Suspected

Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala: A day after Megha Madhu, a Kerala Intelligence Bureau (IB) officer, who was working at the immigration department of Thiruvananthapuram airport, was found dead on the railway tracks, the family has now filed a complaint, seeking an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the officer’s death. Megha’s body was found on Monday around 9.30 am, after she left the airport in the morning following her overnight shift.

According to the loco pilot of the Jayanthi Janatha Express, which reportedly hit the victim, Megha was seen walking along the track while talking on her phone before allegedly lying down across the rails as soon as the train approached. She was heading to her rented apartment when the tragic incident happened.

Police suspect the case to be a suicide due to an alleged relationship issue, while Megha’s family claims external pressure or coercion leading to her death. The family says that she has been in a toxic relationship with a fellow IB officer, a Malappuram native.

Megha, the only daughter of Madhusoodanan and Nisha, was a native of Poozhikkad in Pathanamthitta district. After completing graduation in forensic science, Megha joined the IB a year ago in the immigration section.

Megha’s father said that she had told him that she was going to her room after completing her jobs in the morning. She has also mentioned her decision to buy something to eat, father adds. However, by 10 AM, what the family heard was about the tragic accident.

Notably, Megha’s father expressed suspicion  that she did not need to go near the railway tracks, noting that there were no railway tracks on her usual route. He asks how she ended up there, wondering if she deliberately took the longer route via the railway tracks or if someone had called her there at that time.

“I heard on the news that she was on a phone call when it happened. “Her mobile phone needs to be examined to uncover the truth,” The South First quoted Madhusoodanan.

He also rejected reports of her suffering from depression, noting that they have no reason to believe that. He then said that he has written to IB officials to ensure a thorough probe in to his daughter’s death.

The father also revealed that his daughter had developed a close bond with a young man from Malappuram during her training in Punjab. Though the family initially opposed the relationship, they later agreed to her choice, according to the reports. However, it is said that the man later withdrew from the marriage proposal, leaving Megha in agony for days, which might have led her to take the extreme step, reports cited her colleagues.

However, police have started investigation into the complaint given by the family. Police have begun examining her mobile phone records, including her final call details, which is believed to extract crucial leads in the case.
