Kerala Man's Mysterious 'Samadhi' Death: Body Exhumed For Autopsy.

A team of police and forensic experts in Kerala exhumed the body of the 76-year-old spiritual leader on Thursday, named Gopan Swamy who allegedly attained ‘‘Samadhi” (eternal rest). The exhumation was done to determine the cause of his death which has been shrouded in mystery.

Gopan Swamy’s family had claimed that he had “attained samadhi,” a state of enlightenment, on January 7. However, residents and relatives were sceptical of this claim and filed a petition seeking an investigation into his death.

The police obtained permission from the Kerala High Court to exhume the body, which was buried in a concrete chamber by his family on the premises of Gopan Swamy’s house. The exhumation process began at 7 am and took around two and a half hours to complete.

When the body was exhumed, it was found in a sitting position, covered in ashes and camphor. The remains had begun to decompose, especially around the mouth area. The body was found in a sitting position covered in camphor and ashes.

A local councillor, S Prasanna Kumar, who was present at the scene confirmed that the body was intact and identified as Gopan Swamy who was a retired headload worker.

The body has been taken to the Medical College Hospital in Thiruvananthapuram for a post-mortem examination. The cause of death will be determined after the examination, and a DNA test will also be conducted to confirm the identity of the remains.

The exhumation process was carried out amidst tight security with a heavy police presence deployed in the area. The family of Gopan Swamy had objected to the exhumation, claiming that their father had indeed “attained samadhi” and was not dead.

However, the Kerala High Court refused to stay the exhumation process, questioning the family’s intention to stall the investigation.
