
IUML National Committee Gets First Female Members: Meet Jayanthi Rajan And Fathima Muzaffer (Photo on Facebook @Mufeeda Thesni)
Kerala: The Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) has announced new office bearers for its national leadership, including two women for the first time in the party’s history. During the National Council meeting held in Chennai on Thursday, May 15, it was decided that Professor Khader Moideen would continue as the national president and PK Kunhalikutty as the general secretary and PV Abdul Wahab MP as the treasurer.

Who Is Fathima Muzaffar?
Hailing from Chennai, Tamil Nadu, Fathima Muzaffar is the current national president of the Women’s League. A postgraduate in Islamic Studies and graduate in law, Fathima is a member of the Muslim Personal Law Board, Tamil Nadu Waqf Board, Muslim Women’s Aid Society, and Muslim Women’s Association.
Fatima Muzaffar, who holds a postgraduate degree in Islamic Studies and a law degree, is a member of the Muslim Personal Law Board, Tamil Nadu Waqf Board, Muslim Women’s Aid Society, and Muslim Women’s Association. She has led numerous anti-CAA protests in Chennai. During the 2022 Chennai Corporation election, IUML-DMK alliance candidate Muzaffar emerged victorious in ward 61 by a huge margin of votes. She contested the election using IUML’s own symbol (ladder).

Fathima’s family has been in politics for three generations. Her father, Abdul Samad, was a former member of Parliament. Her grandfather, Moulana Abdul Hameed Baqavi, was a freedom fighter and was famous for translating the holy Quran into Tamil for the first time. She is also a multilingual orator.
Who Is Jayanthi Rajan?
Currently, the national secretary of the Women’s League, Jayanthi Rajan, is IUML’s Dalit face from Irulam, Wayanad. Jayanthi has served as a member of the Panamaram Block Panchayat, and also in the Pulpally Grama Panchayat.
Earlier, the Muslim League had considered Jayanthi for contesting from the Chelakkara Assembly seat if the party got the constituency. Jayanthi, a popular figure among locals, has been devoting her life to the public service for years. By picking Jayanthi, IUML expects to make greater impact among Dalit groups, one of the party’s major focuses. It is observed that the representation of women also marks the party’s commitment to women empowerment.
Panakkad Sayyid Sadiq Ali Shihab Thangal has been elected as the Chair of the Political Advisory Committee and ET Muhammed Basheer has been picked as the National Organizing Secretary.
