'Not Forced By Any Leaders': Rahul Mamkootathil Resigns As Youth Congress Chief

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala: Palakkad MLA Rahul Mamkootathil on Thursday resigned as Kerala Youth Congress State President following allegations of misconduct and harassment by Malayalam actor and former journalist Rini Ann George and writer Honey Bhaskaran.

Rini had on Wednesday raised serious allegations that a youth leader, without naming the person, repeatedly sent her offensive messages and even invited her to a five-star hotel. Both BJP and CPI(M) workers held protest marches against the youth leader demanding his resignation.

Earlier, amid reports that the high command sought his resignation, Mamkootathil had stated that he had not been asked to resign. He said no one asked him to resign and that nobody from the party had contacted him.

However, after announcing his resignation, Mamkootathil said that he was stepping down not because he was not guilty as he had done nothing wrong. He said the youth congress workers have a lot of work before the upcoming assembly elections and Panchayat elections, and hence can not waste time justifying him.

“I respect their time. We will fight strongly against the CPI(M) government and face the elections,” the Palakkad MLA said, adding that he was not compelled by any party leaders to resign from the post.

When asked about the misconduct allegations against the women, the youth congress leader said they should prove their claims.
