Palakkad Mother Arrested After Two Children Found Drowned In Home Water Tank
A 33-year-old woman, identified as Nivedya, has been arrested in Palakkad after police said she confessed to drowning her two children in a water tank at their rented home.
The children, five-year-old Jennifer Juliet and her three-year-old brother Robin Christopher, were found dead inside a concrete water tank in the bathroom of their house at Koorankad, Menonpara, near Kozhinjampara on September 29.
Nivedya initially told the police that she had been doing household chores outside when she discovered the children had drowned.
The police registered a case of unnatural death.
However, relatives and the children’s paternal aunt raised questions about the circumstances. They told police that both children knew how to swim and questioned how they could have ended up in the tank together.
During questioning, Nivedya allegedly admitted to drowning the children, according to police.

Investigators said she told them that she first drowned Jennifer while the child was bathing and later drowned Robin.
Police said Nivedya cited personal and family problems as well as her desire to pursue further studies and modelling as reasons behind the killings. She reportedly told investigators that she felt having children was preventing her from pursuing an independent life.
A post-mortem examination found no external injuries on the children. The cause of death was determined to be drowning, with water found in their lungs.
Nivedya was produced before a magistrate and remanded in judicial custody. The investigation is continuing.
