What Is Happening With Central University Of Kerala ?

Kasaragod, Kerala: For the past few days, a political row is spiraling out at Central University of Kerala. Students have been accusing the administration of facilitating the “saffronisation” of the campus.

Marking the 150th anniversary of Vande Mataram, the university organised  a two-day national seminar, allegedly inviting members of the RSS and its affiliates, sparking protest among the students. Students were initially denied permission to enter the seminar hall, which was met with sharp reaction. Students questioned the move, asking whether the it is a “university of an RSS Shakha?”

The SFI-led protesters disrupted the seminar, causing tensions in the campus. Following the protest, Police registered a case against 25 others, and several students were suspended from the University, outraging students further.

Students organisations, except the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), subsequently marched towards the administration block, boycotting classes and demanding the withdrawal of the suspension order.

Students confronted proctor K Sreekumar, whom they accuses of trying to saffronise the campus, demanding that the suspensions be revoked and that he resign. The proctor was later seen being escorted by police amid the escalating protests.
