Shawwal Moon Sighted In Kerala: Eid-Ul-Fitr To Be Celebrated On Friday
Kozhikode: The crescent moon marking the beginning of the Islamic month of Shawwal has been sighted in Kerala, confirming that Eid al-Fitr will be celebrated tomorrow across the state (Friday), as well as in several Gulf countries.
The announcement was made by prominent religious leaders, including Kanthapuram A. P. Aboobacker Musliyar and Syed Ibrahim Khalil Al-Bukhari, who stated that credible reports of moon sighting were received from Parappanangadi, particularly from the Chettipadi region.
With the sighting of the Shawwal moon, Muslims in Kerala are preparing to celebrate Eid, marking the end of a month-long period of fasting during Ramadan. Mosques across the state will host special Eid prayers tomorrow morning, drawing large congregations of worshippers.
Believers traditionally welcome the festival by wearing new clothes, offering prayers, giving charity, and exchanging greetings. A key religious obligation is the distribution of Zakat al-Fitr, which must be completed before attending Eid prayers.
This year, Eid coincides with Friday, and scholars have reminded believers to perform both the Eid prayer and the Jumu’ah prayer.
Eid al-Fitr, often referred to as the “festival of breaking the fast,” is one of the most significant occasions in Islam, symbolising gratitude, compassion, and unity among communities.
