Two Masters Degree, ...: What Is Kerala Chief Minister VD Satheesan's Educational Background?

Thiruvandanthapuram, Kerala: Kerala chief minister VD Satheesan, who took charge on Monday, has a versatile educational background along with experience in politics. The former opposition leader is more formally educated in terms of variety and total credentials than his peers in the UDF.

Completed his school education in Nettur and Panangad, VD earned his degree in sociology from Sacred Heart College in Thevara, Ernakulam. Besides, Satheesan completed an LLB from the Law Academy in Thiruvananthapuram, also also an LLM from the Government Law College in Thiruvananthapuram.

The new chief minister has also practiced as an advocate in the Kerala High Court for nearly a decade. Apart from that, he has done a Masters in social work. Being an excellent orator, Satheesan has drawn many people’s attention in the Kerala state assembly.

Satheesan’s political journey started joining Kerala Students Union (KSU), the student political body of the Congress Party in the state, and he earned reputation becoming chair of the Mahatma Gandhi University Union (1986–87) as a KSU candidate and served as a secretary of the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI), the student political body of the Congress Party in India.

Satheesan forayed into legislative politics in 1996, but lost to CPI’s P Raju. In 2001, he won from the same constituency, and since then Satheesan  retained his seat from Paravur, winning six consecutive terms as an MLA. Satheesan was appointed leader of the opposition in May 2021. During his tenure as LoP, Satheesan earned popularity among the public.
