After Gautam Gambhir, Jayant Sinha Opts Out Of Lok Sabha Race

New Delhi: Jayant Sinha, Member of Parliament for Hazaribagh and a prominent figure in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has announced his decision to step away from contesting in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Following in the footsteps of former cricketer Gautam Gambhir, Mr Sinha cited a pressing global issue as his reason for opting out of direct electoral duties.

Expressing his intent to focus on combating global climate change both in India and internationally, Mr Sinha, a former junior minister in finance and civil aviation ministries, conveyed his request to BJP Party President JP Nadda. In his statement, Mr Sinha affirmed his commitment to continue working with the party on economic and governance matters, despite relinquishing his electoral responsibilities.

Having served as Hazaribagh”s Member of Parliament for two consecutive terms, Mr Sinha”s decision marks the end of a decade-long tenure representing the constituency. Acknowledging the support and opportunities provided by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and the BJP leadership, Mr Sinha expressed his gratitude towards them in his announcement.

Notably, Sinha comes from a distinguished political lineage, being the son of former Union Minister and current Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Yashwant Sinha. The senior Sinha made headlines in 2022 when he was nominated as the Opposition”s Presidential candidate, becoming the first TMC leader to receive such a nomination.

In the previous Lok Sabha election in 2019, Jayant Sinha secured victory over Congress” Gopal Prasad Sahu with a substantial majority of 4,79,548 votes, showcasing his popularity and support among the electorate.

Prior to his political career, Sinha boasted an impressive business background, including twelve years at McKinsey & Company where he co-led the global Software and IT Services practice. He later served as a partner at Omidyar Network, leading the organization”s investment strategy and operations in India, and also held a position as a managing director at Courage Capital, a global special situations hedge fund.
