BJP candidate Bhupender Yadav clinched the prestigious victory in the battle of Yadavs in Rajasthan’s Alwar. He defeated Congress candidate Lalit Yadav in the constituency.
Bhupender Yadav won with a majority of 48,282 votes, where he secured 6,31,992 votes, comprising 50.42 percent of total votes registered in the constituency. Meanwhile, Lalit Yadav, who finished second, garnered 5,83,710 votes, which comprises 46.57 percent of the total votes.
The Alwar constituency is one of the prestigious ones in the state since it hosts the battle of power between the Yadav and Ahir communities. The battle has been framed as “Yadav vs Yadav”. Thus, for both parties, BJP and Congress, victory was necessary in Alwar.
All eyes were on Lalit Yadav, the young rising star, and to see whether a local leader could defeat Bhupender Yadav, one of the ministers in PM Modi’s cabinet. Even though Lalit Yadav couldn’t rise to the occasion, his contest was remarkable.
From the year 1991 onwards, the constituency has not paved for the successful run for a party for more than two times. It was only Congress managed to win the seat for two terms. This time, the BJP will be content since they had secured victory for a second term.
In the 2019 Lok Sabha election, the BJP candidate Mahanat Balakanth had attained victory by gaining a stunning majority of 3,29,971 votes, bagging 26.07 percent of the polls registered in the constituency.
In the 2014 election and in the by-election held in 2018, BJP bagged a great figure in terms of majority, 2,83,895 and 1,96,496 votes, respectively. Though, compared to the previous elections, this time, Lalit Yadav had managed to decrease the majority of the BJP to a large extent.
