As counting progresses to the final hours, CPM’s Alathur candidate K Radhakrishnan has been declared winner. The LDF candidate has won the seat by 8306 votes. K Radhakrishnan is the Minister of Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST) and Backward Classes.
Alathur once was a CPM citadel, where P K Biju has won twice. In 2019, CPM lost and the Congress’ Ramya Haridas won with a considerable majority of 1.59 lakh. The sitting Congress MP was renominated for the second time from the seat.
Radhakrishnan’s Chelakkara Assembly also falls under the Alathur constituency. Alathur constituency is Palakkad and Thrissur. He has been competing from Alathur’s Chelakkara Assembly constituency, and has been winning seat every time. Last time, he won with a margin of 40,000 votes.
However, going by the national trend, the NDA is leading with more than 293 candidates, while the INDIA bloc is trailing behind by leading 233 seats
