Former Chairman of the WHO Executive Board, Chandni Chowk MP and former union health minister Dr Harsh Vardhan has decided to hang his boots from electoral politics. Instead of fielding the two time MP and five time Delhi MLA, BJP has decided to nominate Praveen Khandelwal from Chandni Chowk for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Dr Harsh Vardhan, who became famous during his tenure as Delhi health minister, with this decision ends an illustrious electoral career spanning over three decades. Reflecting on his remarkable journey, Dr. Harsh Vardhan expressed gratitude for his thirty-year-long tenure in electoral politics, during which he secured victory in all five assembly and two parliamentary elections with exemplary margins. His career was marked by holding prestigious positions within the party organization and in state and central governments.

Dr. Vardhan, a medical professional by training, emphasized his commitment to service to mankind, a principle he embraced since his days at GSVM Medical College in Kanpur. Inspired by the Antodaya philosophy of Deen Dayal Upadhyay, Dr. Vardhan stated that his entry into politics was driven by the desire to combat poverty, disease, and ignorance.

Throughout his tenure, Dr. Vardhan served as Delhi Health Minister and twice as Union Health Minister, spearheading initiatives to eradicate polio and address the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. He expressed pride in being able to defend his fellow citizens during times of grave danger, emphasizing his unwavering dedication to saving human lives.

Acknowledging the support of his party colleagues, supporters, and the common citizens, Dr. Vardhan extended gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, whom he hailed as the most dynamic leader in India”s history. He expressed his intention to continue his work against tobacco and substance abuse, advocate for climate change action, and promote simple and sustainable lifestyles.

Dr. Harsh Vardhan concluded his announcement with a sense of optimism and determination, stating that he has promises to keep and miles to go before he sleeps. He expressed confidence that the blessings of the people would accompany him as he embarks on the next phase of his journey, including returning to his ENT clinic at Krishna Nagar.
