Hafiz Rashid Choudhury contests in the Karimganj constituency representing the Congress party in Lok Sabha election. He was chosen as the candidate, on the suggestion of the district congress committee, as it wrote to the party’s high command. In this election, he is fielded against Kripanth Mallah, the member of parliament of Karimganj constituency.
The Congress party has nominated Hafiz Rashid Chowdhury, a well-known advocate, who was previously associated with the AIUDF and joined the Congress in 2023.
Looking into his educational background, he earned a Master”s degree in Arabic from Gauhati University, in 1987. He also holds a degree in Bachelor of Arts from Gauhati University, in the year 1974.
Being a renowned advocate, Hafiz is a former leader of AIUDF, who took the congress membership in 2023. Meanwhile, some of the office bearers had raised their disagreement on the act of fielding Hafiz in this election. In addition, Choudhury had filed his nomination for the 2026 Legislative Assembly of Assam election.
In this election, he was contesting against Kripanth Mallah, of BJP, who won the previous election with a margin of 473,0446 votes, which was 44.62% of the total votes defeating Swarup Das of Congress. Karimganj is a rural constituency with an approximate literacy rate of 76.68%. In 2014, there were 1165997 voters of which 615198 were male and 550799 were female, and 0 voters of the third gender. Karimganj has an estimated Scheduled Caste population of 12.47% and a Scheduled Tribe population of 0.15%.
