The Indian National Congress gave ticket to Ramu Tekam from the Betul constituency of Madhya Pradesh for the upcoming Lok Sabha election. Tikam is contesting against the Bharatiya Janata Party”s Durga Das Uike, who is currently serving as Betul”s MP. During the 2019 election, Tekum lost to Uike over the margin of 4 lakh votes. While Uike won 8.11 lakh votes, Tikam garnered 4.5 lakh votes. However, Congress continue to place their confidence in Tikam and decided to field him once again from the same constituency against the same opponent.
It is reported that Durga Das Uike is 20 times more richer than Ramu Tekam. While Uike is denoted as the “crorepati”, Tekam is labelled as “lakhpati”. As per the affidavit filed by the two contestants in front of the election commission of India, Uike is far more richer than Tekam. The details given to Election commission states that Uike and his wife cumulatively owns assets that worth around Rs 1.7 crore, whereas Tekam and his wife owns around Rs 7.9 lakh.
Ramu Tekam”s wife is more richer than him, as she owns assets worth Rs 5.4 lakh, whereas Tekam owns assets worth of Rs 2.45 lakh. The couple does not own any immovable assets. At the same time, Uike owns Rs 98 lakh worth of immovable assets and Rs 61.81 lakh worth of liquid assets.
It is to note that Betul has been a stronghold of BJP traditionally. The party enjoys thick support base from the constituency. It is believed that Tekam will be able to topple Uike in the upcoming Lok Sabah election and form base for the grand old Congress.
