Lok Sabha Election Results 2024: Maldaha Uttar Seat Gave Another Chance To BJP's Khagen Murmu

BJP MP Khagen Murmu won the Lok Sabha Election 2024 from Maldaha Uttar Lok Sabha constituency once again with a total of 77708 vote margin. While the TMC’s Prasun Banerjee secured the second place.

BJP MP Khagen Murmu sought reelection from his West Bengal constituency of Maldaha Uttar. Murmu, a well-known tribal leader in Bengali politics, was a CPIM member of the West Bengal Legislative Assembly for three terms between 2006 and 2019. The Santhali politician became a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in 2019. The 64-year-old BJP candidate is a graduate of Magadh University in Patna. He joined the Zila Parishad in Maldah in 1993, marking the start of his political career. On the BJP platform, he was elected to the Lok Sabha in 2019.

In the 2019 elections, Khagen Murmu defeated the TMC candidate with a total of 37.61% votes, whereas the Trinamool Congress Mausam Noor secured 31.39% votes. The Congress candidate Isha Khan Choudhury secured 22.53 % votes.

In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, Congress party candidate Mausam Noor secured 33.41 percent votes to win the parliamentary seat while CPI (M) candidate Khagen Murmu secured 27.77 percent votes and TMC Soumitra Roy received 16.97 percent votes to be at second and third positions respectively.
