Lok Sabha Election Results 2024: Saugata Roy Wins In Dum Dum Constituency With A Margin Of 70,660

In Dum Dum Lok Sabha constituency the TMC candidate Saugata Roy registered a win against the BJP candidate Silabhadra Datta with 70,660 votes. The Lok Sabha Election Results 2014 were announced on June 4, 2024. This year TMC secured 29 seats, BJP 12, and Congress 1 seat in West Bengal.

Saugata Roy is the brother of former governor of Tripura and Meghalaya and former BJP member Tathagata Roy. Saugata Roy is a postgraduate with a degree in physics. He is a national science talent research scholar. BJP MP Babul Supriyo had filed a complaint against Roy alleging him to be involved in the Rose Valley Ponzi chit fund scam.

Earlier he had been elected from Barrackpore constituency in 1977 and served as five times state legislative assembly member. For a brief period, he also held the position of Union Minister of State for Petroleum in Charan Singh’s cabinet.

Since 2009, Saugata Roy has been the winning candidate from Dum Dum and this will be his fourth term if he wins this election.

In 2019, Saugata Roy was the winning candidate from Dum Dum and secured 42.51 percent votes while the BJP candidate Samik Bhattacharya secured 38.11 percent of votes.

In 2014, Saugata Roy secured 42.67 percent votes while CPI (M) candidate Dr. Asim Dasgupta secured 28.99% votes. The BJP candidate Tapan Sikdar got 22.50% votes and secured the third position in the polls.
