Lok Sabha Election Results 2024: TMC Candidate Jagadish Chandra Barma Basunia Won Cooch Behar Seat

Trinamool Congress candidate Jagadish Chandra Barma Basunia secured the Lok Sabha Election 2024 from the Cooch Behar Lok Sabha constituency with a total of 39,250 vote margin. BJP candidate Nisith Pramanik got the second place in Cooch Behar.

The cooch Behar Lok Sabha seat BJP representative Nisith Pramanik fought for the constituency second time. Earlier in 2019, Pramanik won the parliamentary seat from cooch Behar. From 1977 to 2009, the All India Forward Bloc candidates won the Cooch Behar seat consecutively till the party’s success was decimated by Trinamool Congress in 2014.

In the 2014 general elections, the TMC candidate Renuka Sinha secured 39.51% of the votes while AIFB candidate Dipak Kumar Roy received 32.98%. While the BJP candidate Hem Chandra Barman secured 16.34% votes. In 2016 by-elections, TMC candidate Partha Pratim Ray secured victory with a whopping 59.03% votes, while BJP’s vote share increased to 28.32% while the AIFB’s share decreased.

In 2019, the BJP emerged victorious by defeating TMC and AIFB candidates. The BJP candidate registered an additional 31.64% votes in comparison to the last election. The BJP candidate Nisith Pramanik secured 47.98% votes whereas the TMC candidate secured 44.43% votes. AIFB candidate secured a very low vote share with only 3.07% votes.
