Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge Appointed As Chairperson Of INDIA Bloc

The Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) has appointed Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge as chairperson after intense deliberations. Under his chairmanship, the bloc is expected to confront the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in the coming general election.

India, a group of more than 25 opposition parties, including the Congress, aims to prevent the NDA from winning a third straight term at the Centre in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections scheduled for the first half of this year.

Despite the chairperson being chosen, many other challenges have been staring at the INDIA Bloc, which consists of parties with different ideologies, including seat-sharing. However, the bloc members have been relieved by the fact that the content of the chairmanship was avoided with Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, who was in fray for the top post, giving up his claim and proposing for someone from Congress to assume charge.

In Uttar Pradesh, the Samajwadi Party is in a confrontational mood as Congress refused to share any seats in the assembly elections, and Party chief Kamal Nath refused to honor the central leadership”s commitment to six seats in the state. Akhilesh Yadav had condemned the Congress”s stance as betrayal after it was confronted with a defeat in the three heartland states and the sacking of Kamal Nath from the top post.
