Maulana Muhibullah Nadvi: Samajwadi Party Might Choose This Delhi Imam For Rampur Seat

The Samajwadi Party (SP) might field Delhi Parliament street mosque Imam Maulana Muhibullah Nadvi as its Rampur Lok Sabha candidate. Rampur is considered a stronghold of Samajwadi senior leader Azam Khan.

The Samajwadi Party (SP) has won the Rampur Lok Sabha seat. According to sources, SP chief Akhilesh Yadav has named Maulana Muhibullah Nadvi as a candidate from Rampur seat. It is believed that Maulana Nadvi will file his nomination in the presence of the SP chief by this afternoon. ST Hasan will contest from Moradabad. However, the party and official statement about this have not been revealed yet.

In Uttar Pradesh, out of 16 seats, 13 are Muslim-dominated. Rampur seat is considered to be one of the prominent seats for SP. Rampur constituency is considered to be a stronghold of SP leader Azam Khan. Feilding of Maulana Nadvi is an attempt of the SP to strengthen its hold in the constituency. As per the report, the Imam of New Delhi’s Jama Masjid Maulana Nadvi is a resident of Rampur. He has served as the imam of the Masjid for the past 15 years. After holding the meeting with Azam Khan, it is speculated that he would be fielded as the candidate from Rampur. After this meeting, it is believed in political circles that Nadvi will file a nomination from Rampur. In Moradabad, Hasan will be the SP candidate from Moradabad.

In the 2014 general election, the BJP candidate Dr Naipal Singh won the seat by securing 3,58,616 votes. In 2019, the SP candidate Azam Khan won securing 5,59,177 votes. However, in the election of 2022, BJP candidate Ghanshyam Lodhi won the seat in the by-election. The Lok Sabha polls are expected to determine the equation that exists in the Muslim-majority seat.
