However, the battle lines in the prestigious Guwahati parliamentary constituency have been drawn mainly between two powerful women contenders fielded by BJP and Congress. The grand old party by fielding Mira claims that it has forwarded a much deserving candidate.
Guwahati will vote on May 7 in Phase 3. It is the first time the constituency is witnessing a fight between women. The Congress has represented the seat six times while the BJP four times and its present ally AGP, for a single time.
In the last electoral roll, the constituency witnessed the battle of ballots between BJP’s Queen Oja and Congress’s Bobbeeta Sarma. Oja defeated the Congress candidate by over 3.45 lakh votes.
The seat, which has the fourth highest electors in the state after Dhubri, Darrang-Udalguri and Kaziranga Lok Sabha constituencies has been represented in the lower house of the parliament by stalwarts like Rohini Kumar Choudhary, who was also a member of the constituent assembly of India; Hem Barua, tallest literary and socialist figure and Dinesh Goswami, former union law minister.
