Congress on Wednesday expelled its Maharashtra leader Sanjay Nirupam from the party for six years. The grand old party said the Mr Nirupam, former MP and former president of Mumbai Congress, has been expelled due to indiscipline and anti-party statements.
“Taking note of the complaints of indiscipline and anti-party statements, the Congress President has approved the expulsion of Shri Sanjay Nirupam from the party for six years with immediate effect,” said a statement from the Congress party.
Nirupam’s expulsion comes after his contentious remarks against the INDIA bloc as well as Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) ally Shiv Sena led by Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray over seat-sharing for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Maharashtra Congress chief Nana Patole has earlier said that the state Congress committee have revoked his status as a star campaigner and have initiated disciplinary proceedings against him for his statements.
