After congratulating Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his victory in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections during the NDA Parliamentary Party meeting, Bihar CM and JDU chief Nitish Kumar went a step ahead and announced Modi’s return as PM in the 2029 national election as well.
“…Agli baar jab aap aaiye toh kuch log jo idhar udhar jeet gaya hai, agli baar sab haarega. Humko poora bharosa hai (Next time when you come, those who have won here and there will lose next time. We have full confidence),” Kumar said in his address.
Kumar and PM Modi exchanged smiles and warm handshakes following the Bihar CM’s supportive speech.
Without directly naming anyone, but seemingly targeting the leaders of the opposition INDIA bloc, Kumar said, “Bina matlab ka baat bol bol karke kya kiya hai… inlogo ne kuch kaam kiya hai? Desh ki koi seva nehi ki… iss baar phir se jo mauka mila iske baad koi gunjaish nehi rahega. (What have they achieved by speaking aimlessly? They haven’t served the nation… If they get another chance this time, there will be no possibility afterwards).”
On June 7, the newly elected MPs of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) unanimously passed a resolution appointing Narendra Modi as their parliamentary party leader and endorsed him as Prime Minister during a meeting at Parliament Central Hall.
In his address to alliance partners and newly elected lawmakers, PM Modi said that the NDA was not just a coalition formed for power but rather an organic alliance committed to the principle of ‘nation first’.
Following the NDA Parliamentary meeting, leaders will proceed to Rashtrapati Bhavan to submit their letter of support to the President.
While the terms of support to the NDA are undisclosed, reports suggest that the JDU, with 12 MPs in the Lok Sabha, has reportedly requested two cabinet berths and one MoS role, with the Railways Minister position being a priority. The JDU has already called for a reassessment of the controversial Agniveer scheme, which it believes had a negative impact on the 2024 Lok Sabha election results. Another condition put forth is a special status for Bihar, according to reports.
