Pinarayi Vijayan Slams PM, Urges Election Commission To Take Action

Kerala Chief Minister Pirnarayi Vijayan on Tuesday through an X post strongly condemned the “insidious remark” made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the election campaign in Rajasthan. He quoting the words of Modi during the speech, wrote, “PM himself making such communal remarks seeking to make political gains, is a clear indication of the threats democratic and secular values are facing in the country.”

Narendra Modi on Sunday during the election rally claimed that the Congress manifesto talks about redistributing wealth to Muslims. Urging the Election Commission to take action immediately, he further wrote, “ECISVEEP must take strong action against it” 

The Kerala chief minister also called on all the progressive and secular forces to stand together to ensure an election with transparency and democratic values. “Any effort to dent India’s secular credentials and religious harmony should be resisted,” he concluded. 

On Tuesday, Pinarayi while addressing a press conference in Kannur, asserted that the upcoming Lok Sabha election is crucial to protect the Constitution and its core values. He also stated that it is “unfortunate” that the Election Commission was not acting in a non-partisan manner by taking immediate action against the hate speech. 

Vijayan alleged that it was a situation where EC ought to have acted immediately but till now it has been silent on the issue. 

“The derogatory reference to intruders and ‘hoarders‘ is untrue and part of their ideological code. The fact that the Prime Minister himself has come forward to take political advantage by saying communalism during the elections is an illustration of the challenges facing democratic and secular values in the country,” he said.
