Priyanka Gandhi Warns Against BJP’s Plans To Change Constitution

Edited by Dileep Kumar S

Valsad (Gujarat), April 27: Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi today apprehended that in case the Bharatiya Janata Party was allowed to come to power again, it was certain to change the constitution of the country.

Addressing a public rally in support of the INDIA candidate Anant Patel here today, Ms Gandhi told the people not to believe the denials and clarifications of Prime Minister Modi that the constitution will not be changed.

She said, this was their typical modus operandi as the BJP first makes junior leaders to raise the demand for things they intend to do. Initially they deny it but once they are in power, they implement all such demands, she pointed out, while referring to the BJP’s past record.

Ms Gandhi said, there was a definite design in BJP’s intentions to change the constitution, as they want to weaken the democracy and democratic institutions of the country. She observed that the BJP has been doing all this during the last ten years it has been in power at the centre.

The Congress general secretary claimed that the BJP government had miserably failed the expectations of people across the country. She pointed out how difficult the life of a common man had become. She said, while on the one hand there was widespread unemployment, which was highest in 45 years, on the other hand the prices of all essential commodities had skyrocketed.

She appealed to the people not to get carried away by the propaganda in the media as the media had been sold out. She said, the media was not showing any reality and asked if Prime Minister Modi was really so great and powerful as the media was trying to project him, why had he failed to control poverty in the country.

In a special message to the Adivasi community, she said, there were special provisions in the Congress manifesto for them. She said, the Forest Rights Act will be strengthened and all their pending issues will be resolved within one year. She announced that there will be an SC/ST sub-plan with a provision for dedicated budget in it. Besides, she added, the Adivasi majority areas will be declared as Scheduled areas.

Ms Gandhi said, during the last ten years, the people of the country had seen too much injustice. That is why, she added, the Congress party has named its manifesto as “Nyay Patra” with commitment for “Paanch-Nyay” (five types of justice) with 25 guarantees.

She said, the Congress has a proven record that whatever it promises it delivers. She referred to the guarantees the Congress gave in Karnataka and all these guarantees, whether free bus travel for women or paying them Rs 2000 per month have already been fulfilled within less than six months of forming the government.

She said the Nyay Patra had provision for justice for every section of the society, whether employment for youth, or legal guarantee for MSP to farmers and waiving off their debts. Besides, she said, the daily minimum wages will be enhanced to Rs 400.

She urged people to vote carefully and think about their own plight before casting their votes, without getting carried away by fake media propaganda.

Among others present on the occasion included were Mukul Wasnik, Shakti Singh Gohil and others.
