Cheranalloor Raveendranath, former Education minister of the Pinarayi Vijayan cabinet is fielded as the Communist Party of India (Marxist) candidate from Chalakkudi constituency. The CPI(M) announced its final list of candidates for the Lok Sabha election on Wednesday. Having in mind the loss the Left alliance faced (19 seats out of 20) in the 2019 Lok Sabha election, CPI(M) is set to increase its count this time.

Raveendranath has been a member of the Kerala Legislative Assembly from Puthukkad assembly since 2011. Being an active member of the CPI(M), he had also worked as the resource person of the Total Literacy Programme, consultant to the state planning board, district convenor of the People’s Planning Programme. Raveendranath retired as a chemistry professor of St. Thomas college, Thrissur. 

By making use of the MLA-MP funds and three-tier Panchayats for implementing projects in agriculture, horticulture, floriculture and dairying. Some of the implemented projects include ‘Nivedya Kadali’ providing bananas to Guruvayur temple, supplying organic vegetables to Oushashi, a state government entity producing Ayurvedic medicines, and Natural fresh milk supply in Thrissur town. Apart from these developmental projects he has converted 150 classrooms in 79 schools into high-tech classrooms. 

Raveendranath completed his master’s degree in science. Right from the beginning, he has been an active member of the CPI(M), Area Committee Member, and the Kerala Sastra Sahithya Parishad. He was also active in The All Kerala Private College Teachers” Association (AKPCTA) during his academic life. 

Raveendranath was born on 22 November 1955 to K. Peethambaran Kartha and C. Lekshmikutty Kunjamma. He has three siblings- two younger sisters named Sreeparvathi and Jayashree and a younger brother named Mukundan.  

He is married to Prof. M. K. Vijayam and they have two children, Dr Lakshmi Devi and Jayakrishnan.
