Chief Minister of Assam Himanta Biswa Sarma”s recent social media post suggesting the role of Shudras, a proposal of regressive ideology is receiving sharp criticism. On Tuesday, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) in strong words condemned Assam Chief Minister”s post and slammed it as “BJPs Manuvadi ideology in full play!”

Sharing Himanta Biswa Sarma“s post, CPI(M) wrote on microblogging site X: “We strongly denounce Assam CM Himanta Biswas” tweet claiming that “Shudras are to serve Brahmins, Kshatriyas and Vaishyas” BJPs Manuvadi ideology in full play!”

CPI(M)”s strong opposition to mixing religion and politics, particularly aiming at the BJP, is evidently sharp in their recent responses and social media posts. CPI(M)”s decision not to attend the ‘Pran Pratishtha’ ceremony, that is, the inauguration ceremony of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya despite receiving an invitation has caught headlines today. In their statement, citing reasons for not attending the ceremony, party stated that religion is a personal choice and “not to be converted into an instrument for political gain.”

Attacking BJP, the CPI(M) added: “It is most unfortunate that the BJP and RSS have converted a religious ceremony into a State sponsored event directly involving the Prime Minister, the UP Chief Minister and other government functionaries”. The party also claimed that by organising the event ruling regime has violated fundamental principle of governance in India.
