Edited by Fathimathu Shana

After the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) declared its candidate list for the 2024 Lok Sabah election, Rahul Lodhi was the happiest. The party give him ticket from Damoh Lok Sabha constituency. Immediately after the declaration, Lodhi started his election tour. He has been visiting senior leaders of the party.

Rahul Singh Lodhi was elected as Congress MLA in 2018 from the assembly constituency Damoh. He then resigned the MLA post and joined BJP. In the by-election that followed, Lodhi faced defeat from Ajay Tandon of Congress. However, the chief minister of the state Shivraj Singh Chauhan made him the chairman of Madhya Pradesh Warehouse Corporation and gave the stature of Cabinet Minister.

In the assembly election 2023, the party did not give ticket to Lodhi. However, that was made up with the Lok Sabha candidates list. Damoh is a Lodhi dominated area and has been a strong fort of the BJP for the past 35 years.

Despite the long queue of potential candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha election from Damoh, including Rural Development minister of the state Prahlad Patel, Sudha Malaiya, Abhishek Bhargava Deepu, Pritam Singh Lodhi, Dashrath Singh Lodhi, Ramlal Patel, Somesh Chaurasia, Raghavendra Singh Lodhi, it was Rahul Singh Lodhi the saffron party has decided to give ticket.

There was a confusion at the time Lodhi’s name was declared. He was mistaken to be the nephew of Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Uma Bharti. Bharti cleared the confusion by saying that this is not her Rahul. She congratulated Lodhi for securing ticket to contest from Damoh and said that he will win with huge vote share.
