Lok Sabha Election Result 2024: Rakhibul Hussain Put An End To The Rule Of AIUDF In Dubri

The Congress candidate Rakibul Hussain has won the Dhubri constituency of Assam in this Lok Sabha election 2024, bringing back Congress as it puts an end to the rule of AIUDF, which lasted more than a decade in the region. He recorded a record margin of 10.12 lakhs.

The 2024 Lok Sabha election witnessed a triangular battle between Rakibul Hussain of Congress,  the most influential Badruddin Ajmal of AIUDF, and  Zabed Islam of Assam Gana Parishad. This battle found the victory of Rakhibul Hussain of the Congress, who brought back the Grand Old party after a decade to the region as he secured 14,71,885 votes defeating Mohammed Bradruddin Ajmal of AIUDF, who previously swept Dhubri through his three consecutive wins in the past Lok Sabha elections with a ‘record’ margin of 10.12 lakh votes. AIUDF candidate Bradruddin Ajmal was the runner-up securing  4,59,409 votes and Zabed Islam of AGP secured 4.38,594 votes in this election.

Rakibul Hussain has represented the Samaguri constituency in the Assam legislative assembly for the Indian National Congress since 2001. He has also served as the deputy leader of the opposition in the Assam Legislative since 2021.

Following his victory in the 2011 Assam Legislative Assembly election, as an independent candidate from the Mankachar constituency of Assam, he aligned himself with the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), a prominent regional political party. He set his path with the AGP party during the 2019 Lok Sabha election where he was chosen to represent the party in the Dhubri constituency. But the results of the 2019 election didn’t turn up to his expectations, since he secured 3,99,733 votes and was defeated by Badruddin Ajmal of AIUDF who won victoriously securing  718,764. Later he realigned his political career with Congress as he rejoined the party.
